What the WtB signals actually look like

Every maternity signal on its raw scale, drawn as its real distribution across all units. The question underneath: does the raw number tell a family anything, or does everything bunch into a narrow band where "80" is really just average?

The finding, up front

Patient survey scores span a narrow band, so a unit scoring 80/100 sits below the middle even though "80" reads as good. To separate good from great we score each signal relative to the observed spread — that's what these curves are for.

Bars are the real spread across all units with data; the line is a normal curve fitted to the same mean and SD, so you can see how bell-shaped (or skewed) each one really is. The dashed line marks the median.

Three ways to make a signal relative

The same handful of raw survey scores, re-expressed. The raw column barely moves while the relative columns fan the units apart — that spread is what a family can actually act on.

Min–max rescales the observed range onto 0–100. Z-score says how many SDs above/below the mean. Percentile says the share of units this one beats.
